Born on April 5, 1856 and died on November 14, 1915 Booker became a major leader in the civil rights movement.
Raised in Hale's Ford, Virginia and worked in salt furnaces. He later attended the Tuskegee Institute and became an author. In time Booker educated thousands helping to end disfranchisement of the vast majority of African Americans in the south.
